In order to build a platform for research and academic exchange of aggregation induced luminescence (AIE) for Chinese scholars around the world, the 1st Molecular Aggregation Luminescence and the 2nd Chinese Aggregation Induced Luminescence Symposium of the Chinese Chemical Society will be held in Shanghai from April 9 to 11, 2021. With the theme of "challenges and opportunities of aggregation induced luminescence", this meeting actively discussed the latest progress and achievements in the AIE field, and deeply discussed the opportunities, challenges and future development direction of AIE.
Aggregation Induced Emission (AIE) is a photophysical concept proposed by Academician Tang Benzhong, the chairman of this meeting. It refers to the phenomenon that a class of molecules do not emit light or emit weak light in their good solutions, but their luminescence is significantly enhanced after aggregation. Compared with the traditional phenomenon of light quenching caused by aggregation, AIE has changed people's thinking mode and created a research field that is original and led by Chinese scientists and followed by foreign scientists. At present, scientists from about 1600 units in more than 80 countries and regions around the world are conducting AIE related research. The number of papers published and the number of citations in the AIE field increased exponentially. AIE was rated as one of the top ten international chemical emerging technologies in 2020 by IUPAC, and was selected as the hot frontier and emerging frontier fields of chemistry and materials for many consecutive years.
